Facebook Suicide

We knew already that facebook makes addicted. But that much that someone commits suicide? :O
Aishwarya was a 17 year old girl from India who spent according to her parents too much time in social nets like facebook. Her parents just wanted that she concentrated more on her studies. After the parents penalties she went to her room, penned a suicide note and hanged herself.

It seems that Facebook has already such a big impact on our social life that somone might feel to get isolated if you can't spent time within.

Facebook makes bad mood

Now it's official. A German study revealed that facebook causes bad mood. The reason for this are good news of your friends as they cause envy.
It happens mostly to passive Facebook users as they can see the happy things of their friends. They feel isolated, tired and sad because Facebook allows them to compare themselves much more.
One proof more that Facebook has changed our society.
Here you can see the whole study: http://warhol.wiwi.hu-berlin.de/~hkrasnova/Ongoing_Research_files/WI%202013%20Final%20Submission%20Krasnova.pdf

What happend with my friends?

I subscribed to almost every friend posts on Facebook. Because for me it's the most important feature to stay updated about their live. As I am working in Online Marketing I also have some facebook friends that have a job in Internet and so I also liked a lot of posts that are about Social Media, Infografiks, SEO news and so on. Now I realized that not only mates from the Internet business discovered the possibility from Social Media and so on. When I entered today my Facebook profile I saw a lot of posts from friends that where related to their business that they are working in. Hell, I don't give a shit what happens in the prom industry, mechanical engineering, coupons or whatever. But with Facebook I am somehow forced to stayed informed about all of this. Do my Facebook friends really think that it's stuff that I want to know? I doubt. Probably they are not even conscious about it because they either love their job so much that they can't distinguish between business and private stuff anymore or they just have to do this because they have an excuse to use Facebook during their working time ;)

past catches up

Facebook is dangerous. You can never complete with your past.

It's not that I have to hide something. But in the past the past kept the past. Today the past is always present. If you like it or not. Today I got two friend requests from people that I did not have contact with since years ago. And I did not even remembered well their faces. OK in respect to the people it's a very good exercise to remember the people on your way.
But once you except their friend request you keep always present in their lives and they in yours. How does it change the human behavior? Furthermore with timeline it's so easy to travel back in your past. How bad for someone who tries to live in the NOW or for people who like to escape their past. Probably they need to recreate a new self and if it's just virtual.

Birthday?

Today was a kind of memorable for my facebook use. today I got a birthday reminder for a colleague. I was wondering if he really had his birthday today because I thought it was another day. But there appeared already a lot of wishes on his wall from other friends so I was a little bit more convinced. Even I still had my doubts because the guy don't appear with his real name and he is always a bit concerend about security stuff. So I stayed a bit skeptical. But anyway I did not want to be inpolite and so I wrote something on his wall as well: "Is it really your birthday today? Well, that have fun to celebrate it. Happy birthday." A few minutes later I got already a very ironc comment from another colleague who meant that this day is very memorable. And later the supposed birthday boy answered that it's just his avatar who is celebrating his birthday today. How funny but there came still a lot of wishes from other friends... It seems that through the birthday reminder a birthday wish does not have any value anymore. There is no effort needed anymore to remember a day and you get hundreds of whishes. Maybe in the future Facebook will extend his service and no effort will be needed at all because an automatic generated wish can be generated. How easy would that be. Than everybody can get 1000 wishes. 1000 meanless congratulations from virtual friends.
